Luggage & suitcase shipping

Send eligible luggage by courier — prepared as a parcel, not airline baggage.

For students, relocations and longer trips, sending a suitcase separately can be practical. Megway helps make the bag courier-ready, check the route and prepare the information needed for UK or international delivery.

Understand the job before choosing the service.

A suitcase entering a courier network is handled as a parcel. It can move through depots, conveyors, vehicles and sorting hubs, so wheels, handles, zips and exposed straps can become vulnerable if the bag is not prepared properly.

The final service depends on the packed weight and dimensions, destination, contents and whether the chosen courier accepts luggage in that form. Some routes may require an outer box or protective wrapping, while others may accept a suitably secured suitcase.

International luggage also needs customs information for the contents. “One suitcase” is not a useful customs description: clothing, shoes, books and toiletries should be described accurately and restricted contents checked before booking.

What Megway can help with

More than a basic parcel transaction.

01

Measure after packing

The suitcase should be weighed and measured in its final protected form, including any outer packaging.

02

Protect vulnerable parts

Secure loose straps and consider additional protection around handles, wheels and zips.

03

Describe the contents

International luggage needs a contents declaration with sensible categories, quantities and values.

04

Check exclusions

Cash, jewellery, passports, irreplaceable documents and other high-risk valuables should not be packed in ordinary courier luggage.

05

Compare route options

A suitcase can be priced very differently across express, economy and volumetric-weight services.

06

Keep travel timing realistic

Courier transit times are not the same as checking a bag onto a flight. Build in time for collection, hubs, customs and delivery.

Process

Prepare luggage for courier transport

1

Sort the contents

Remove prohibited, restricted and high-risk valuables before the bag is closed.

2

Pack the suitcase securely

Distribute weight sensibly, close all zips and reduce internal movement.

3

Protect the exterior

Secure straps and use an outer box or protective wrapping where the service requires or benefits from it.

4

Take final measurements

Record actual weight plus length, width and height after all protection is added.

5

Prepare customs details

For international routes, list the categories of goods and their quantities and values.

6

Choose the service

Compare the courier options enabled at the Megway location for the destination and package profile.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a suitcase without putting it in a box?

Sometimes, depending on the courier and route. The bag still needs to be robust and securely prepared. Some services may require or strongly benefit from an outer carton.

Can I send clothes and shoes inside?

Normally yes where the route permits them, but international shipments still need an accurate customs declaration.

Can I put toiletries inside?

Some liquids, aerosols and cosmetic products are restricted by certain courier networks or destinations. Check them before booking.

Can I send a laptop in my suitcase?

Electronics and lithium batteries have service-specific rules and compensation considerations. They should be checked before being packed.

Is luggage shipping cheaper than airline excess baggage?

It can be on some routes and weights, but not always. The sensible comparison is the full courier price, delivery time and convenience against the airline option.
