Why use a mailbox?

Separate important post from your home address.

A mailbox can be useful when privacy, stability or convenience matters. Home-based businesses may want routine correspondence separated from household mail; students or frequent movers may need a more stable receiving point; and some customers simply prefer important post to arrive at a staffed location rather than an unattended residential address.

Participating Megway locations can manage mailbox services under their own capacity and product terms. Depending on the location and plan, the service can cover eligible personal mail, business correspondence and related collection or notification workflows.

A mailbox is not automatically the same as a registered office, virtual office or legal service address. Before using the address with Companies House, a bank, regulator, marketplace or another organisation, confirm that the specific Megway product and location terms permit that use.

Who it can help

Useful for customers who want privacy, stability or a local receiving point.

01

Home-based businesses

Keep eligible business correspondence separate from household mail and use a staffed local collection point.

02

Online sellers

Use a consistent correspondence address alongside parcel shipping, printing and seller support.

03

Students

Create a stable local mail point during study or accommodation changes.

04

Frequent movers

Reduce disruption when a residential address changes more often than your important correspondence should.

05

Individuals wanting privacy

Avoid using a home address for routine eligible correspondence where the service terms allow.

06

Small companies

Combine mailbox services with local printing, scanning, shipping and business support.

Application workflow

Application, verification, payment and allocation are separate stages.

This avoids treating a submitted form as an automatically active mailbox.

1

Choose the location and plan

Select the participating Megway that will physically manage the mailbox and choose the plan/term available there.

2

Complete the application

Provide personal details and, where relevant, business information and the intended use of the address.

3

Complete identity checks

Mailbox services can require identity and address verification before the location can approve the application.

4

Pay through Megway

Online card payment stays inside the Megway application when central Stripe processing is enabled, or the location can record an approved in-store payment.

5

Location review

The servicing Megway checks the application, documents, payment state and available mailbox capacity.

6

Mailbox allocation

Only after approval and payment can the location allocate a mailbox number and activate the service.

Before applying

Be clear about how you want to use the address.

Whether the mailbox is for personal or business correspondenceThe business/legal name that may need to receive mailWhether you intend to use it with Companies House or another formal registerWho needs authority to collect mailWhether you expect parcels as well as lettersThe identification documents requested by the location
Local control

The servicing location remains responsible for the mailbox.

Important legal-use distinction

Do not assume that a mailbox can be used as a registered office, director service address, VAT address, banking address or regulated-business address merely because it can receive mail. Suitability depends on the exact product, the location’s terms and the requirements of the organisation you are registering with.

Common questions

Mailbox rental FAQs

Do I need ID?

Yes, mailbox providers commonly require identity and address verification. The exact documents and electronic verification process depend on the service.

Can a business use the mailbox?

Business use can be available, but the permitted use of the address must match the location’s mailbox terms and the requirements of the organisation you are giving the address to.

Can I receive parcels?

Some locations and plans can support parcel receipt or collection, but this should not be assumed for every mailbox product.

Can someone else collect for me?

A location may allow authorised collectors where the required permission and identification have been provided.

Can I cancel or change my plan online?

The Megway customer platform supports mailbox service requests such as pause, cancellation, renewal or plan changes, subject to the location’s terms and approval.

Is my application accepted as soon as I submit it?

No. Submission starts the review process. Activation requires the required verification, payment state and location approval.
