How It Works

For most destinations, FedEx is a direct door-to-door service—from your address to your chosen destination.

However, for FedEx International Economy® Freight, and for FedEx International Priority® Freight to certain destinations, parcels are shipped from our depot. You have the option of dropping your consignment off at one of our depots, or booking an optional collection from your door.

For these freight services, please add 1 working day to your estimated transit time if booking either an optional collection or an alternative drop-off option, to allow for overnight delivery to our depot. For some postcodes in London and North West England, we are able to collect ourselves and ship from the depot same day.

Once your shipment has been delivered to our depot, we will process it and forward your parcel to its final destination via our carrier.

Size and Weight Restrictions

Parcel

• Maximum weight domestic: 45kg per piece
• Maximum weight international: 68kg per piece
• Maximum length: 120cm
• Maximum 2nd longest side: 70cm
• Maximum length plus girth: 266cm

"Length plus girth" is calculated as length plus twice the width and twice the height.

For example: for a parcel of dimensions  40 x 30 x 20cm:

40 + (2x30) + (2x20) = 140cm

Freight

• Maximum weight: 1000 kg (palletised)

Volumetric Weight

Your shipment will be charged by either actual weight or volumetric weight – whichever is greater.

Volumetric weight is a value derived from the size rather than the weight of your parcel and may apply if your parcel is particularly large and contains relatively light items.

FedEx International Priority® and FedEx International Economy® calculate volumetric weight by multiplying the three dimensions of your parcel together and dividing by 5000. For freight, the divisor is 6000.

Surcharges

Category	Description	Fee
Address Change	Applied when either a collection or delivery address has to be amended.	£5.72 per consignment
Remote Area Surcharge	Applied when the delivery location is defined as remote. Areas are designated as Tier A, B or C - please refer to this spreadsheet (Excel file - right click, Save As).	Tier A: £3.57 per shipment. Tier B: £0.43 ker kg or £19.32 per shipment (whichever is greater). Tier C: £0.55 per kg or £25.12 per shipment (whichever is greater). This surcharge will be added at time of booking.
Delivered Taxes Paid (Duty Reversal) Admin Fee	Admin charge administered for billing customs duties and taxes to the shipper rather than the receiver.	£12 per consignment or 2.5% of the total customs charge (whichever is greater)
Additional Handling (Parcel)	Applied if a package is: greater than 121cm along its longest side greater than 76cm along its second-longest side greater than 266cm combined length and girth (L+2xW+2xH)	£55.20 per consignment*
Additional Handling (Freight)	Applied if unit measures greater than 157cm along its longest side.	£67.97 per shipment
Non-Stackable	When any piece, skid or pallet in a shipment cannot be stacked due to the shape or packaging of the goods.	£157.32 per consignment
Oversize Charge	Applied to any package that exceeds 243cm in length or 330cm in length and girth (L + 2W + 2H).	£67.97 per consignment*
Return Charge	A surcharge applied for all returns in addition to the shipping cost.	£21 per consignment
Signature Required	Applies if signature is requested upon delivery to a residential address.	£2.76 per consignment
Advancement Fee	When importing a shipment, duties and taxes may apply. FedEx may pay these fees in advance on behalf of the customer. A fee applies in addition to customs charges.	2.5% of advanced duties/taxes, with a minimum of £12

*For multi-piece shipments, if Oversize and Additional Handling (Parcel) both apply, only Oversize will be charged.
